In this guide, we break down what water balance is, why it matters, and how to maintain it throughout the year , without the confusion. What Is Pool Water Balance & Why Does It Matter? Pool water balance refers to maintaining the correct chemical levels to keep your pool safe, clean and efficient. The key components include: pH Levels – Impacts swimmer comfort and how well chemicals work Sanitiser Levels (Chlorine, Salt, etc.) – Keeps bacteria and algae under control Total Alkalinity – Helps stabilise pH and prevent rapid fluctuations Calcium Hardness – Protects pool surfaces and equipment from damage When water is balanced, your pool is easier to manage, feels better to swim in, and helps prevent costly repairs. Spring & Summer: Increased swimming and higher temperatures increase chlorine demand Test water more frequently Adjust pH after heatwaves or heavy rainfall Autumn: Falling leaves and debris increase organic load Skim regularly and check sanitiser levels after storms Winter: Lower sunlight slows chemical breakdown Continue weekly testing Maintain circulation to prevent stagnation Adjusting your routine seasonally helps prevent issues before they start.
